Wrong species

The sublimation of the individual into the collective, the longing of an atomic existence to be subsumed into a coherent ensemble, the desire of ordinary persons to be part of a community, seems a natural part of human consciousness. After all, considering children as mere parasites leeching off of productive elders negates the very concept of the human family. Is it a wonder then, that the extreme extension of this mode of thought, culminating in the form of communism---from each according to his ability, to each according to his need---holds (perhaps implicitly) as its highest ideal, the ant colony? Supremely ironic though, that this most cherished wet dream of the commies is sustained by the rigidest caste system known in the animal kingdom.
